BELATED VALENTINE’S DAY BLOG – HOMELESS HEART

During the week I sometimes walk past the intersection of Market and Van Ness Streets.

On the north side of Market Street heading towards the Castro, there’s a chain-link fence that for several months had one section covered by knotted red ribbons and yellow locks.

Earlier this week, someone re-arranged the ribbons around the yellow locks into a heart. I call it Homeless Heart, because of the destitute people who normally  can be seen on that stretch of Market.

I asked a man sitting on a milk crate with his back reading a newspaper if he knew anything about who re-tied the ribbons into the shape of a heart. He thought it was a girl, but he wasn't sure.

Whoever it was, thank you.
