LAST MEAL AT LITTLE HENRY'S

Little Henry's, an Italian restaurant that opened in 1983 by an Asian immigrant (at least that's the story I heard; I'm unable to verify this, though)

served its last meal on Friday, August 31.

The meals weren't haute cuisine, but they were decent and affordable and the food always covered the plate.

For anywhere from $12 - 20 you got a main dish plus vegetables, a side of spaghetti or rigatoni with meat sauce, soup or salad and bread.

Plus,if you were feeling especially flush, you could buy a bottle of the house wine for $15.

It's last day was Friday, August 31. When I asked why they were closing, and was told that they were retiring.

I have no idea what's next for the restaurant itself, or the building on the corner of Post and Larkin, but I do know that Little Henry's will be missed.

NEIGHBORHOOD RE-LOCATIONS – PLANT WAREHOUSE

Neighborhood favorite The Plant Warehouse has moved once more, this time to 1550 California,

into the interior of the old Nob Hill Mall.

The new space affords them not only room for their numerous varieties of plants,

it also provides enough room to offer patrons a chance to relax with a complimentary glass of wine.

The Plant Warehouse has moved from their longtime 1624 California Street location to right across Polk to 1546 California Street.

There's no outside sign announcing what the business is at the moment, but the Plant Warehouse remains easy to find by the ever-present profusion of plants and bench outside the store during business hours.

WHERE THE MILLIONAIRES LIVE

Awhile back someone asked me where I lived. I told him mid-Polk. 'Huh,' he replied. 'Where the millionaires live.'

I knew instantly what he meant.

While most of Polk Street looks like it did ten years ago

now half-million dollars-and-up condominiums are scattered throughout the are, like the Marlow

or the just-finished 1601 Larkin

the soon-to-be completed Austin

and many others.

Another sign this is now a higher-income neighborhood are the ever-present police cars

patrolling up and down Polk and the surrounding neighborhood streets in greater numbers and frequency than five years ago.

Still, there aren't that many pricey bars, restaurants and clothing stores along Polk Street – at least not yet.

CORE40, a fitness studio, has temporarily vacated its 1390 Larkin Street location while the building undergoes seismic retrofitting

and has temporarily re-located

to 1460 Pine Street, a half-block from Polk.

LOCAL UPDATES

ClinCapture, which recently opened in the neighborhood, has gone from being that anonymous purple building on Bush Street between Van Ness and Polk

to that in-your-face, this-is-who-I-am purple building instead.

Also, longtime Polk Street restaurant The Crepe House at 1755 Polk, has been closed since February 1 for earthquake retrofitting. They originally hoped to re-open March3,

but that opening date may be too optimistic, as the entire building

the restaurant is in, as well as the businesses next to it (Tootsie Toes and Delightful Foot Massage) has to be retrofitted as well.
