NEIGHBORHOOD CLOSINGS 2017 – CABLE CAR CLEANERS AND THE ROCKWELL SALES OFFICE (#3 in a series)

As of March15, Cable Car Cleaners at 1398 California has closed.

The sales office at 1688 Polk for The Rockwell luxury condominiums also closed sometime ago.

ORCHID UPDATE

The new stalk that had grown on the larger of the two orchids that I blogged about on February 17

grew a flower spike.

This was what the spike looked like on March 14

before finally blossoming on March 17.

The smaller of the two, meanwhile, is growing two new stalks.

CITY MURALS – NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL

This mural is located on the side of Grandma's Deli & Cafe at 1551 Mission Street. It was completed by Pancho Pescadero and 67 Suenos Collective in 2014.

It's s a smaller version of a once-visible larger mural on the side of the San Francisco Friends (Quakers) Building at 65 9th Street.

A workshop to discuss the LGBTQ cultural heritage and history of Polk Street is scheduled for this Tuesday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paulus Lutheran Church, 1541 Polk Street. Refreshments will be served.

LOCAL UPDATES

ClinCapture, which recently opened in the neighborhood, has gone from being that anonymous purple building on Bush Street between Van Ness and Polk

to that in-your-face, this-is-who-I-am purple building instead.

Also, longtime Polk Street restaurant The Crepe House at 1755 Polk, has been closed since February 1 for earthquake retrofitting. They originally hoped to re-open March3,

but that opening date may be too optimistic, as the entire building

the restaurant is in, as well as the businesses next to it (Tootsie Toes and Delightful Foot Massage) has to be retrofitted as well.
