ORPHEUM THEATER MAKEOVER

This was the Orpheum Theater in December 2015. Even though the facade is partially covered, you can see how dingy and dirty it had become.

Here's how it looked in January and throughout most of this year when it was doing the Christo-Wrap thing until this August

when it finally unveiled its newly-painted, clean, white facade

which fits in well with the continuing transformation of the mid-Market area of San Francisco, and does the old (90 years and counting) theater proud.

FRANK NORRIS APARTMENTS – UNVEILED!

The remodeling of the Frank Norris Apartments, begun in November 2014 and last written about in this blog on July 7, 2015, has finally been completed.

It was actually finished some weeks more earlier. I was hoping that the BMI Silo System and the fence surrounding it would be gone for an unobstructed photograph of the front, but construction is continuing elsewhere in the building for awhile longer.

Although it took over a year, the remodelers, whoever they were, (BMI?) did a nice job.

NEIGHBORHOOD MAKEOVERS – HOLIDAY INN, PINE AND VAN NESS

The facelilft at the Holiday Inn at Pine and Van Ness, begun in May

has been completed. The outside metal covering has been cleaned and polished

giving the outside of the motel a bright new look.

THE NEVER-ENDING REMODEL: FRANK NORRIS APARTMENTS

The remodeling of the Frank Norris Apartments, begun in November 2014 and last written about on January 28, 2015, continues its glacial pace.

It's been going on for so long that I began to wonder if, instead of a remodel, it was actually an homage to the artist Christo:

Then, suddenly and without any fanfare, a major milestone was recently reached: the southern wall is now covered by scaffolding.

NEIGHBORHOOD MAKEOVERS 2015 (#1 in a series)

Work on the Frank Norris Apartments building between Bush and Pine Streets, which began in November 2014, is still ongoing.

Hopefully, when finished, it won’t be like the southern wall, shown below.

Missed a spot.

A remodeling of the the drab, hasn’t-been-painted-in-30+-years apartment building at 1517 Pine Street

has been completed.

I think it came out nice. I don't care for the gray paint job, but it's certainly easier to keep up.

NEIGHBORHOOD REMODELINGS UPDATE – HOLIDAY INN

The remodeling of the corner Holiday Inn at Van Ness and Pine has been completed, with the ROH Bar and Restaurant taking over that corner.

While the new design is certainly an improvement over the previous one (which I remember as a drab, semi-windowless affair), I'm not a particular fan of the new one, either.

The open windows remind me of a car dealership. Also, the restaurant could benefit from some drapes or large green plants. Except for the bar, the interior of it reminded me of a large institutional lunchroom.
