HOMELESS SIDEWALK SALES

This is the PG&E substation at Larkin and Eddy.

Sometimes in the afternoon, when the Larkin Street sidewalk isn’t being hosed down, a number of homeless people will set up shop to sell merchandise.

People who get their information about homeless people from movies and TV think this is where all sorts of stolen goods are sold.

I went by there a few weeks ago when the sidewalks weren't being hosed down to take photos of some of the items people were selling:

If you're looking for a hot item to sell on eBay for big bucks,

homeless street sales are not the place to do it.

CONTEMPORARY SIGNS OF DISCONTENT 2016 (#24 in a series) – HOMELAND SEC. GOV POLICE

The above graffiti recently appeared on the wall of Fox Plaza, which is currently being remodeled.

I have to admire whoever did this. They had to scale a 10-foot fence topped with barbed wire, erect ladders to block-paint the letters, take down the ladders and get back over the fence, all under the cover of darkness.

Well done.

POLICE ON POLK

In the last few months I've noticed more police cars in and around Polk Street.

I imagine it's a response to the ongoing problem/reality of car window break-ins in the neighborhood

which has caused people to tape signs on their windows announcing there are no valuables inside.

(which I always thought would be sure to inspire someone to break in).

Or maybe it's to report about the homeless people in the neighborhood

who keep being homeless.

CITY MURALS 2016 – SELF CONSUMING SELF – DAVE (#9 in a series)

Painted on the rear of the City Center Hostel building at 685 Ellis, "Self Consuming Self  Dave" is one of my favorites. (Dave is so intent and focused looking through the microscope. Does he like what he sees? Does it disturb him?)

I happened to be down in that area recently and was able to take this photograph through the bars of the locked parking lot.
