NEIGHBORHOOD OPENINGS – LIQUID GOLD, LUSH GELATO (#10 in a series)

LIQUID GOLD

opened at 1040 Hyde between California and Pine. It's a tap room serving 30 different craft beers in 12 oz. pours for a very reasonable $6 (in my opinion, anyway).

LUSH GELATO

PAINTED FIRE HYDRANTS UPDATE

After I published a blog on October 1 about the painted fire hydrants of Polk Street, the Oct. 8th issue of the SF Weekly featured a piece about “Cliff”, the man who has been re-painting old, beat-up fire hydrants red and silver around the City. He does this on his own time and dime as a tribute to the fire department. (For the complete feature, click here: http://www.sfweekly.com/sanfrancisco/know-your-street-art-fire-hydrants-beautification/Content?oid=3188913)

Southeast corner of California and Franklin outside of Whole Paycheck Foods

"Cliff" is continuing his city beautification project in our neighborhood at the moment. If you see him, do NOT take his picture or tweet it, as what he is doing is illegal (defacing city property).

NEIGHBORHOOD UPDATE: ENCORE EXPRESS HOTEL REMODELING

The make-over of the Encore Express Hotel at 1353 Bush has been completed. The outside bricks have been cleaned and fresh new paint applied to the woodwork.

I like the black-and-white keyboard detailing running along the top of the building.

NEIGHBORHOOD MURALS (#6 in a series 10-19-14)

A new mural has arrived in the neighborhood. Painted on the wall of Toast Restaurant at the the corner of Sacramento and Polk.

It was done by local artist Sirron Norris, whose work I've seen in other parts of town.

It's a joyful piece.

It already seems pretty popular with visitors and locals alike.

CONTEMPORARY SIGNS OF DISCONTENT (#8 in a series)

Flyer at Pine and Polk Street

A silent protest and fast against the death penalty will be held today at 350 McAllister Street between 12– 2 p.m.

(I won't be there, but I’m also against the death penalty, because it's the ultimate penalty and it can’t be made fair.)

Currently on the west side of Hyde between Pine and California is the following apology.

It continues on the other side of Hyde Street, becoming more personal

more fervent,

more intense

until it culminates in a passionate plea for forgiveness.

Whoever and wherever you are, “J”, this apology is for you.
