NEIGHBORHOOD MURALS – INTERIOR WALL, JACOB’S FAMILY RESTAURANT (#14 in a series)

This vivid mural graces the northern wall in Jacob’s Family Restaurant at 1428 Polk Street. It was painted by the owner of 2C4S Cutlery and Gallery featured in my March 23, 2015 blog.

NEIGHBORHOOD CLOSINGS 2015 – BLUE FOG MARKET, TI-TI’S CAFÉ (#4 in a series)

Blue Fog Market, “…an artisanal deli and Counter Culture cafe for the busy urban lifestyle”

on the corner of Sacramento and Polk, has closed.

This surprised me. I would have thought "an artisanal deli and Counter Culture cafe for the busy urban lifestyle" would do well in this neighborhood. So much for assumptions.

Also closed is Ti-Ti’s Café at 1488 Pine.

It is currently undergoing remodeling for its next business reincarnation.

GARBAGE CAN COMEBACK

Walking along Polk Street yesterday morning, I saw something at the corner of Pine and Polk that I hadn’t seen in years:

a garbage can.
I continued walking and couldn’t believe what I saw next:

another garbage can, this one near the corner of Polk and Bush.
I pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.
Over the last several years, I had noticed and complained to friends about the disappearance of garbage cans on many corners in my neighborhood (which is why so many people end up leaving their dog poop bags and other trash in the streets and sidewalks).
Then, on the way home, I came upon this sight:

City workers installing yet another garbage can on another corner.
Be still, my beating heart.
